R. Alan Fryer
Alan Fryer received his A.B. from Brown University and, after working as a computer programmer and systems analyst, graduated magna cum laude from Boston College Law School.
Alan is a trial attorney with broad experience in the resolution of high-stakes commercial disputes, including those involving financial institutions, creditor's rights, large and small corporations, commercial and residential real property, and construction projects. He has particular expertise in fidelity and surety claims, employment litigation, environmental disputes, and toxic torts. In addition, Alan has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury and products liability cases.
Alan has obtained many defense verdicts. He also negotiated a settlement recovering $18 million in a commercial contract dispute, obtained a $2 million arbitration award in a construction case, negotiated a $3.1 million salvage recovery for a surety, and won a $1 million jury verdict in a products liability subrogation case. In addition, Alan has had consistent success in prosecuting and defending appeals in state and federal courts.
In complex cases involving large quantities of documents, Alan uses sophisticated document imaging and case management software to provide cost-effective case handling and expedite the favorable resolution of such cases.
Alan is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and has appeared in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts (including the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel), as well as the following Massachusetts courts: the Superior Court, the trial and appellate divisions of the District Court, the Land Court, and the Appeals Court.
Alan is also a member of the Boston Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He is active in the Fidelity and Surety Committees of the ABA and DRI, and has served as program chair, speaker and author for many committee and CLE programs and publications for the ABA, DRI, MCLE, and Boston Bar Foundation. In addition, he has performed pro bono work for such organizations as the Conservation Law Foundation and the National Consumer Law Center, and has served his community as chair and member of his town's finance committee and various other committees, as organizer and chair of a citizens' committee to protect residential neighborhoods, and as coach of youth sports teams.
