A Short History Of The Firm
Badger, Dolan, Parker & Cohen is one of Boston's oldest law firms. Walter Irving Badger (1859-1926) founded the firm in 1885. Over time, Badger became one of the best-known Boston trial lawyers of his day. His most famous trial was Koplan v. Boston Gas Company, a case involving a massive gas explosion in downtown Boston that occurred during the construction of the first subway in the United States.
Later, Badger's son, Walter I. Badger, Jr., joined the firm and practiced here for over 40 years, retiring in 1964. During that time, he served as President of the Boston Bar Association. At various times through the years, the firm has been known as Lincoln & Badger; Badger, Pratt, Tick & Doyle; Badger, Pratt, Doyle & Badger; Badger, Parrish, Sullivan & Frederick; and Badger, Sullivan, Kelley & Cole.
Mr. Kelley specialized in the defense of medical malpractice and products liability cases. On Mr. Kelley's retirement in 1976, Peter D. Cole became managing partner. Mr. Cole specialized in the defense of products liability cases and also practiced as a municipal attorney. In 1984, James B. Dolan succeeded Mr. Cole as managing partner.
In June 1990, Badger, Sullivan, Kelley and Cole, primarily an insurance defense firm, merged with Parker and Cohen, a commercial litigation and general practice firm, to become Badger, Dolan, Parker and Cohen. Since 1990, George F. Parker, III has managed the firm.
As a result of the merger, we represent a broad spectrum of individual, corporate and institutional clients, which, we believe, allows us to offer special expertise and unique insight in many litigation areas. We continue to provide product liability and insurance defense, representing a number of carriers as well as self-insured manufacturers and other corporations.
For decades, the firm and its predecessors have maintained an "AV" (highest possible) rating from the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. The firm has also been selected for inclusion in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
